Spotlight: Tumblebear Connection

We love hearing about our customers’ successes with email marketing. The folks at Tumblebear Connection recently shared the great success they’re having with their best email marketing tips. We’re excited to share their story and hope it inspires you to use creative email marketing to your advantage!

Q: Tell us a bit about your organization.

Founded in 1986 by one of the leaders of gymnastics training, Patti Komara, Tumblebear Connection has produced more than 80 instructional DVDs on gymnastics training, plus Patti’s books on yearly lesson plans for the internationally known Tumblebear Gym Program, School-age Gymnastics, Dancing GymBears, YogaBears, CheerBears, Gym-N-Learn, and her very successful Swim Program. Her programs are sold across the USA as well as in more than 40 countries such as France, Saudi Arabia, England, China, Australia, Canada, and Ireland.

Q: What is your best email marketing tip or strategy?

There are three things we’ve found that really work for us. First, we really like utilizing a strong headline. A strong headline can be more important than the content, because it's what makes the reader want to open the e-blast in the first place. Second, we encourage our subscribers to forward our emails to their friends and peers. And third, we keep track of what prompted our customers to purchase from us. Our e-blast campaigns have been very successful in retaining old customers as well as gaining new ones thanks to these three strategies. According to our research, our e-newsletter is the second most popular reason for purchasing, right behind "previous customer."

Q: How has Email Contact helped you with your business?

Email Contact makes it really easy to use. We can login to our account, create an email, and quickly send it out to all our email subscribers.  Frequently staying in touch with our customers by using Email Contact has been a very important tool for our business.

Spotlight: Sunset Shores

We love hearing about our customers’ successes with email marketing. The folks at Sunset Shores recently shared the great success they’re having with their best email marketing tips. We’re excited to share their story and hope it inspires you to use creative email marketing to your advantage!

Q: Tell us a bit about your organization.

Sunset Shores is a unique lakeside resort offering a special brand of hospitality since 2000. We have four fully modernized cottages that we rent out to families, couples, watersports enthusiasts, group retreats, and more. In fact, a large portion of our business is hosting retreats for scrapbooking groups, quilters, artists, and other crafters. Unlike other resorts and hotels with their red tape and business-like attitudes, we strive to create a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere. One way we do that is with real, down-home cooking for our guests, made from scratch with local organic produce. Regular renters get a homemade dessert delivered to their cabin every night, and we handle all catering for retreat groups. In fact, a lot of our regulars come back just for our food, and even special order it for other events. We have some customers who have made reservations with us every year since we opened, and we’re very proud to deliver the kind of getaway they’re looking for.

Q: What is your best email marketing tip or strategy?

Our strategy is to stay in touch with our customers and share our laid back lifestyle with them. That helps us build relationships and makes them want to come visit. So we use email fairly often, aiming for at least once or twice a week, and we use Facebook everyday. Between those two channels, we send out updates constantly, and they might be anything from photos of the lake to an inspirational message to stories of what’s going on in our lives or at Sunset Shores. We also offer special little deals exclusively via email, and use Facebook to drive sign-ups and collect email addresses of everyone who calls. The two channels work hand-in-hand to generate interest and reservations. With this strategy, nearly everyone on our email list eventually stays at Sunset Shores.

Q: How has Email Contact helped you with your business? Why did you choose Email Contact over other email providers?

A friend and fellow business owner recommended Email Contact when we founded Sunset Shores, and we’ve always been happy with it. As we’ve tried to modernize the business while staying true to the original vision, Email Contact has been an invaluable tool to stay in touch with customers and generate new business.

Spotlight: Dandylion Wishes

We love hearing about our customers’ successes with email marketing. The folks at Dandylion Wishes recently shared the great success they’re having with their best email marketing tips. We’re excited to share their story and hope it inspires you to use creative email marketing to your advantage!

Q: Tell us a bit about your company.

Dandylion Wishes is a one-of-a-kind paper crafting, home decor, and gift shop that’s been filling a unique niche since April 2011. We sell all kinds of paper craft and scrapbooking supplies, as well as banners, pillow boxes, decorative wood blocks, seasonal decor like ornaments and wreaths, and even some clothes and jewelry. We’re very different from other crafting stores, which is one of the things our customers love about us. That difference is reflected in the name of our store, which brings back memories of kids giving their mothers dandylion bouquets and making wishes together. We try to create that kind of happy, wishful environment in our store by offering card-making classes, trendy papers and crafts, and lots of specialized products and decor that you can’t find at big-box craft stores.

Q: What’s your best email marketing strategy or tip? How successful have your emails been?

Pictures and photos make a huge difference! We include images in all our emails, whether we’re talking about what’s going on locally, upcoming store events, new products, or quotes for cards. High-quality photos help these emails feel more like conversations and build trust, which is important for drawing in customers. About 75% of our loyal customers are not local, so these visually appealing emails keep up our relationships and remind them to visit us when they’re in town. We get lots of feedback about how much our subscribers love getting our emails, so we know that great photos make a difference.

Another way we’ve made email marketing work for us is by sharing a weekly coupon. Customers cut it out or show it to us on their phones. Out of a list of 3000 subscribers and an average of 35-40 customers per day, we see about 10 coupons a week (more during this time of year). That’s pretty good and consistent success for us compared to other types of marketing we’ve tried.

Q: How has Email Contact helped you with your business? Why did you choose Email Contact over other email providers?

We chose Email Contact because it was priced right, and we found it very easy to use. The platform makes it easy to upload pictures and coupons, which are very important to our strategy. We also love all the templates and the pre-scheduling feature. Plus, Email Contact has excellent people who are always willing to help us.

Business Spotlight: Turning Twenty

We love hearing about our customers’ successes with email marketing. The folks at Turning Twenty recently shared the great success they're having with their unique Deal of the Day newsletter promotion. We're excited to share their story and hope it inspires you to use creative email marketing to your advantage!

Q: Tell us a bit about your company.

Turning Twenty (formerly FriendFolks) is a family owned and operated quilting and embroidery shop that’s been in business since 1994. We sell quilt patterns and books, hand embroidery patterns, and machine embroidery disks that we author and design ourselves, as well as many fabrics and tools for these crafts. Our Turning Twenty line has been one of the top-selling quilt patterns in the industry for over 10 years, and its success prompted us to change the name of the business this year.

Q: What is your Deal of the Day strategy? How successful has it been?

Our Deal of the Day (we call it Take It All) developed from a desire to move inventory, such as fabric, that we have decided to no longer carry. We started featuring one product each day in our newsletter and sold it at a reduced price until the inventory was gone.  We had no idea it would take off like it did!  All of our customers were so excited about it, we began receiving emails stating that they were actually sitting at their computers each day watching for our email so they could snatch up the deals before they were gone.  We sold out each day within a few minutes. So, we decided to start featuring more products in our daily deal as we have enough inventory that this could take months doing it one product at a time.  We bumped it up to five products a day and again, sold out of everything within an hour.  So, we increased it again and now we feature about 10 products a day and we still sell out quickly.  It has become a very fun process and keeps our customers engaged with us each day.  It's been so well received and so popular that we will continue featuring a daily deal even when we have sold all of the close-out products. We will just create special bundles or find unique products to offer so we can continue to please our customers.

Take It All has greatly impacted our traffic and repeat purchases. The special deals send lots of visitors to our website, which has in turn boosted engagement and sales. Some of our most loyal customers purchase something almost every day!

Q: How has Email Contact helped you with your business? Why did you choose Email Contact over other email providers?

We love Email Contact!  We decided in April to make the switch to Email Contact because the newsletter function on our own site was difficult to work with.  We chose Email Contact over others after doing much research. We found that Email Contact offered more services for a more affordable rate, and so many others in the crafting industry used Email Contact, so we knew we would have a greater choice of templates and options that would fit our needs. In the past, we sent newsletters very sporadically and now...well, we send one every day!
